I'm Back And So Is The SMARTBoard!

newspaperYesterday I was at an all district inservice with many to most of the other third and fourth grade teachers in our district. We were being instructed on different methods of teaching mathematical concepts. It was interesting, and I was able to pick up a few things to integrate into what we are doing in class, but . . . I am very happy to be back with all you kids!

Also, as you know, on Friday I got my new hard drive (750gigs!) and installed it Friday night. After seven hours, all went perfectly and our SMARTBoard is back up and running well (as is the rest of my computer!).

note coffeeLastly, I would like to remind all of you that we have our trip over to the PAC tomorrow afternoon to view our school’s winter program. There are only four parent permission forms left to collect. I sent another copy home with those kids this morning. Please make sure to send them back. If you would like to know f0r sure if you sent in your permission slip, check out the online grade book. At the very bottom I have a section called “Permission Forms”.

Here is the work for the day:

Episode 6 – the sixth episode of the Marchionda Minutes PodCast has Sam telling us about a vacation to South Dakota, his birthday party, and a baseball story. After answering some of my goofy questions (having Chris Farley play me in a movie about my life!) we end the show with a duet. Enjoy!

Parents, ask your child to define both for you. Also, text books have come home tonight for some extra reading. The pages that are being tested are in the planner sheet below.

New PodCast Episode – Monica!

podcast radioToday we recorded our fifth episode of the Marchionda Minutes PodCast. Our guest was Monica. Head on over here to give it a listen.

We are almost finished with our WKCE testing, needing only to finish up three shorter sessions of math. Tomorrow will be our last day of testing.

37In social studies we will be beginning a new unit on communities. For this we will be using our text book and other materials. In math we will be testing tomorrow on adding larger numbers. Next week we will be beginning subtraction concepts, then moving into larger subtraction using blocks and expanded notation to express borrowing. I may be inviting parents into the classroom to help out. Look for an invitation in these posts.

Today in math we reviewed for our addition test tomorrow. Below is my coaching. Using Photoshop we did the math together. I would keep my answers on another layer that was invisible to the students. Periodically we would check our work.

Even though I only worked through probelm 19, all 25 are expected to be completed by tomorrow.

On Wednesday and Thursday we will be completing the mathematics portion of the WKCE state test. In addition to state testing we will be reading Wild Shots in reading and continuing our exploration of concepts in math class. This week we will be solving problems by using a Venn Diagram and other drawings. We will also be collecting data and making tables and graphs. Later in the week we will be practicing adding larger numbers some more as we get into a review and take a test on chapter 4.

Looking for a Volunteer Family to . . .

thumbnail.aspx. . . decorate your class pumpkin. Our student council has asked our classes to decorate a pumpkin for school. This year our pumpkin has to be “silly”. The only rule that I am aware of is that it cannot be carved, but things can be stuck in it, glued to it, painted on it and everything else. If you and your family are interested in decorating our class pumpkin, please comment to this post.
